The last Monday of May, Memorial Day, is the day when across our Nation we pay homage to the men and women who've lost their life in military service.
It's a day to remember that GREAT sacrifice is made in protection of our collective Freedom. For many, it's a day (one of many) to mourn the lost of a loved one who is no longer with us.
Though I honor all those who've sacrificed that I might live Free, it's the military service people resting in Arlington Cemetery's Section 60 that I think of today.
The military service people of Section 60 are familiar to me because I'm living to see their sacrifice often in the face of the mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, children, family and friends they've left behind.
Maybe too these heroes are familiar because the Iraq and Afghanistan wars that claimed their lives still rage with no definitive end in sight. Have not their casualty reports become an expected element to our daily lives?
Honor our military service people and their families who have made the ultimate sacrifice in protection of all we hold dear -- FREEDOM.
Honor these heroes today, tomorrow and always.
